Friday night I went to Jeremy's for dinner. Jen was supposed to come, and we were gonna be all couply and grown up, but she had to work, so it was just me and Jeremy and his wife Miriam. They are very smart and funny, we had tasty chicken and couscous and decadent pastries from The Hungarian Pastry Shop and I truly enjoyed myself.
Saturday I tutored early, which really wasn't so bad except I'm tutoring two students who are in the "yeah, yeah I knew that" camp, which makes it hard to help them. It was fine though. Then downtown to Jen's cousin's baby shower, which was actually not as un-fun as I expected. Probably the 5 glasses of wine and champagne I drank had something to do with that. I always think its funny too at gendered parties like showers. Straight people are not with their partners, but Jen and I get to come as each other's dates. Its like, ha, we are actually having a totally different party. Thanks for the booze!
After the shower we went to the zoo. Jen had been pretty involved with the capital project of rehabilitating the old Lion House into a new, green building that houses an exhibit called "Madagascar!" So she was invited to this party to celebrate the opening. I know the project meant a lot to her, and she had been working on from years back, so it was really cool to see the fruits of her labor filled with lemurs. When they have these government things at the zoo, its after hours and you get wine and beer and ice cream and hot dogs and veggie burgers and whatever and you can walk around and see exhibits without a zillion people in your way. It was especially cool when we went to see the gorillas in the pouring rain and they were sort of digging it and playing around. When it was time to go home, Jen and I followed a path to an exit that would have been extremely convenient...if it were open. But since it was after hours, nope, closed. Then we tried another one...and...no. So its nearing the end of the event and we're way the hell on the wrong side of the zoo for the exit that we're supposed to use. I was kind of hoping we'd get locked in and get to spend a night with the chinchillas or whatever, but Jen, being much more practical, forced me to book it across the whole Bronx Zoo, which is like, seriously a mile of hilly, winding pathways. And...we got out. and then had to walk all the way AROUND the zoo on the outside to find our bus. In nasty, wet, humid NYC heat. I was exhausted by the end of that day. and so grimy I was gray.
Sunday was Pride. I had work at 3:30, so I couldn't get wasted, and Jen was on call for her office, so neither could she. We went downtown and took a look at this PrideFest streetfair they had, which was eh. We got some free itunes out of it though. Then we went for lunch and accidentally met up with Adam and his band of asians. It was nice to see him and when the apocalypse started, I was glad to have friends there. It started thundering and lightening, and it was like the sky was gonna rip open. Seriously.
Then work, which was so useless, cause no one came to my office hours, and only 2 people came to my workshop. Whatever though, it was over quick and then back to the west vill. to meet kevin and brian h. and this cool chick sarah for some drinks. Jen came back downtown and we went to Cowgirl which was loud and fun and full of men and I took a picture of this dude getting sat on by some man in tiny tiny shorts and his friends say I'm supposed to email to them. which i guess I should do. Then Jen and I were like fuck this, we can drink at home and have sex for free so we left and went to whole foods and were domestic.
